A stunning 13 night cruise taking you from the iconic Big Apple to the beautiful islands of the Caribbean. Includes one night in a New York hotel before you board the magnificent MSC Meraviglia, one of the only ships to feature performances from Cirque du Soleil.

Day to Day Itinerary:

Day 1-2: New York, USA: Hotel Overnight Depart 19.00

On arrival in New York, you will be transferred to the hotel for your one night stay in a 4-star hotel, room only. In the morning you will be transferred to the port to board MSC Meraviglia. The ship departs in the evening, setting sail for your first port of call.

Wandering through the patchwork of neighbourhoods is as great a thrill as any single sight. Frantic Chinatown edges stylish Soho, which is but a stone’s throw from the quiet, angled lanes of the once-bohemian West Village. A perfect espresso in a shabby-chic Williamsburg café, a rooftop view from Chelsea’s High Line or a ride on the “A” to Far Rockaway is worth much more than an “I Love New York” handbag. Cheaper, too, and the memory will last longer.

New York City officially comprises the central island of Manhattan and four outer boroughs – Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island. For many, Manhattan simply is New York; indeed, when your MSC cruise takes you to New York, you’ll probably spend most of your time here. Understanding the intricacies of Manhattan’s layout, especially beyond its grid pattern, and getting a grasp of its transport network should be top priorities during your MSC excursion.

New York is very much a city of neighbourhoods, most compact enough to be explored on foot (at least below 59th Street). On your Grand Voyages cruises to New York, of all America’s symbols, none is more enduring than the Statue of Liberty, looming over the harbour from its pedestal on tiny Liberty Island.

Indeed, there is probably no more immediately recognizable profile in existence than that of Lady Liberty, who stands with torch in hand, clutching a stone tablet. Measuring some 305ft from her pedestal base, she has acted as the figurehead of the American Dream for more than a century.

Day 3-5: At Sea:

Day 6: Philipsburg, St. Maarten: Arrive 07.00 Depart 17.00

During your cruise in the Caribbean Sea, after disembarking from your cruise ship in the Dutch port of Philipsburg and visiting the Court House, the heart of the city (a white and blue building dating to 1793 that now serves as the Post Office), don’t miss out on an excursion to the French side of the island.

Marigot, the capital of Saint Martin located on the island’s western coast, is protected by the great lagoon of Simpson Bay. It has retained the atmosphere of late 17th century, when it was founded. It is worth your while to visit its historical centre, which is crowded with wooden houses dotted with delightful shops.

Next, treat yourself to an excursion to Fort St. Louis, built on a hill on the orders of Louis XVI. From here, you can enjoy a stupendous view of Marigot Bay and its beautiful yacht club with the majestic docked luxury yachts.

Day 7: Fort de France, Martinique: Arrive 08.00 Depart 18.00

Among the great pleasures that disembarking from an MSC cruise ship at Fort-de-France, Martinique can grant you is the immediate possibility of bathing in the Caribbean Sea.

Just stroll down to the Anse Mitan beach in the Trois-Ilets, located on a promontory that protects the interior of Martinique’s main bay; or to the nearby Anse à l’Ane: white beaches, coconut trees for shade and the luxurious inland vegetation as a background, the perfect setting for a holiday in the Caribbean.

Less than 20 minutes away from the island’s capital, in Balata, there is a Botanical Garden set up in the heart of the rainforest. It has over 3000 species of tropical plants and flowers that can be observed along trails some of which are partly suspended. Nearby, you will also find Balata’s Sacre Coeur, a miniature replica of the basilica in Montmartre, Paris.

Day 8: Bridgetown, Barbados: Arrive 07.00 Depart 19.00

When you arrive to Barbados on an MSC cruise ship, you should begin your exploration with the capital, Bridgetown. Among the many attractions in this small Caribbean city, pause to admire its many colonial buildings, the Parliament Building and the statue of Lord Nelson in what today is called the National Heroes Square.

The current St. John’s Parish Church is the fifth reconstruction of the oldest local church. It dates to 1836. Its interior hosts a sculpture by an 18th century British artist Richard Westmacott, while its churchyard contains the tomb of Ferdinando Paleologus, a direct descendent of the brother of Constantine XI, the last Byzantine emperor.

The most intriguing neighbourhood to visit is that of St. Andrew. Here you will find Chalky Mount Potteries, an artisan pottery centre, and the Morgan Lewis Sugar Mill, which can serve as a great background for a photograph.

The history of the land can be learned at the Barbados Museum and Historical Society, in the St. Michael neighbourhood.

Day 9: Saint George, Grenada: Arrive 07.00 Depart 14.00

To those arriving with a Caribbean Sea cruise to St. George’s, the capital of Grenada appears to enclose its port, Carenage, like a horseshoe.

Here your cruise ship will await you. Walking up the streets that climb the surrounding hills, one can admire some 19th century Creole houses, which still have roofs of red tiles used as ballast by Old World ships.
Once disembarked from your MSC ship, you can visit the Grenada National Museum, housed in French barracks dating to 1704, where Amerindian pottery, a still for distilling rum and a marble tub belonging to Joséphine de Beauharnais are on display.

Another interesting excursion to go on during your holiday in Grenada will take you on a tour of French forts: Fort George (1705); Fort Frederick, the best preserved; and Fort Matthew, which was bombarded by the Americans in 1983. At Fort George, graffiti reads, “No pain no gain, brother” and a pole bears bullet holes from the shooting of Maurice Bishop, leader of the Grenadian revolution of 1979, who is much loved to this day.

Day 10: Willemstad, Curaçao: Arrive 13.00 Depart 23.00

Curaçao knows how to satisfy every passenger travelling on board an MSC cruise ship. During your holiday on Curaçao, you can explore the Hato Caves, full of stalactites and stalagmites and incisions over 1500 years old, or decide to go on an excursion to Christoffel National Park, where you will see the local flora and fauna, typical of the Caribbean Sea.

For those wishing to admire underwater life, there is the Seaquarium, where you can also make friends with sea lions. Lovers of shopping will find Punda, at the tip of Willemstad, an ideal destination. This part of the city is a historic commercial centre. Its shops and storehouses span all the way to the coast. Here, the houses and workshops form narrow alleys, which today are only open to pedestrian traffic. Between one purchase and another, you may come across scenes of rare intensity, perfect for being immortalized with a photograph.

Day 11: Oranjestad, Aruba: Arrive 07.00 Depart 19.00

In Dutch, Oranjestad means “orange city”. The capital of Aruba, which you will visit during your MSC cruise to the Caribbean, was founded in 1796 around Fort Zoutman, a military outpost and the first structure to be built on the island. Today, with its tax free port, it serves as a base for exploring Aruba. After visiting the Fort and Willem III Tower, dating to 1866, you should explore Aruba, which is great for seekers of relaxation, but also for those leading an athletic life; those fascinated by nature, which has remained in a semi-wild state; and even for those looking for a high adrenaline adventure.

Visit the natural rock bridges and extremely calm waters lapping beaches such as the Baby Beach. Or, take an excursion to the caves in Arikok National Park: the Guadirikiri Cave with sunlight penetrating through openings in the ceiling; the Fontein Cave, which still contains cave drawings by the Arawak peoples on its walls; or the long Huliba Cave, also known as the Tunnel of Love for its heart-shaped entrance.

Day 12-13: At Sea:

Day 14: Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, Bahamas: Arrive 09.00 Depart 23.00

Located in the same part of the Atlantic that washes the beaches of Florida’s Malibu and Miami, the Bimini are a group of islands belonging to the Bahamas. MSC Cruises has helped this country set up an environmental paradise and an exclusive spot for vacationing in harmony with nature in one of its most astonishing locations: Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve.

You will discover six splendid beaches, a vast calm lagoon, the harmonious lines of the typical houses of a Bahamian village and much more. The crown jewel of Ocean Cay are the aquatic sportsactivities, suitable for adults and children.

In addition, one of the island’s beaches is dedicated to families. Located a short distance from where the ships are docked and the area is fully equipped. The more romantic cruise goers, on the other hand, will be able to envision their wedding on the northern beach or simply take a stroll at sunset.

MSC Cruises excursions include an underwater exploration of the MSC Marine Reserve with its astounding tropical underwater life. During your Caribbean cruise, you will also be able to independently snorkel and swim in the waters of Ocean Cay.

The attractions of this unique island also include its seaside restaurants and tiki bars. An exclusive part of the island hosts the Ocean Cay Yacht Clubbeach and facilities, while the expert staff of Aurea Spa will offer massages and beauty treatments in sea view cabanas.

Day 15: Miami, Florida, USA: Arrive 07.00

Following your disembarkation, you will be transferred to the airport to get your return flight to Dublin.
