Day to Day Itinerary:

Day 1: Southampton, UK:

Fly Dublin to Southampton. Boudicca awaits your arrival, where you will be welcomed on board by the excellent crew. You will have plenty of time to settle in and explore the ship, as she leaves port late at night.

Day 2-3: At Sea:

Your first days at sea are spent cruising north towards Alesund, Norway. Take some time to settle in, relax and enjoy the facilities that Boudicca has to offer.

Day 4: Alesund, Norway: Arrive am –  Depart late pm

From striking fjords and mountains to a pretty skyline punctuated by spires and turrets, Alesund is a true charmer. Spread across 3 islands, discover its quaint harbour and canals, Art Nouveau architecture and Atlantic Sea Park aquarium.

Day 5: Cruising:

As you cruise towards Lodingen Pilot Station aboard Fred.olsen Black Watch take some time to settle in and enjoy your surroundings.

Day 6: Lodingen Pilot Station:

Day  7: Tromso, Norway:

Tromso is your port of call for today, located some 350km north of the Arctic Circle.  From here, you will have the opportunity to see your second natural phenomenon on this fabulous cruise holiday, as you will be there at the best time of year to see the Northern Lights. Be patient, as you are at the mercy of Mother Nature; but if you do see the Aurora Borealis, your patience will be well rewarded, as it is nothing short of breath-taking.

Day 9: Alta, Finnmark, Norway:

Rebuilt after the Second World War, the town of Alta has a long history, having been inhabited by the Sami people since prehistoric times. Here you will enjoy an overnight stay, giving you the best chance to see the Northern Lights in all their awe-inspiring glory.

In Alta, why not join our shore tour to Maze, the world’s purest Sami village, where all but one family in the population of 350 are Sami or, for something a bit different, why not try the Igloo Hotel experience, where everything is made from snow and ice, including the room, beds and glasses in the ice bar.

Day 10: Lodingen Pilot Station:

Day 11:Cruising:

Day 12: Solar Eclipse:

We will arrive at the best latitude and longitude point at sea to give the highest possible chance of seeing the total eclipse.  Be sure to look out for ‘Baily’s Beads’, where the sun shines through the rugged surface of the moon, creating points of light on the edge of the moon’s disc. These will only be visible for a few seconds, just before the sun disappears. The diamond ring effect is seen as a single bead of light, giving the effect of an enormous sparkling diamond on a shiny ring.

Day 13: Runavik,Faroe Islands:

The Port of Runavík is well known as being particularly safe and well protected from the large Atlantic waves.

Cruise ships dock at Kongshavn, which translates to King’s Harbour. History tells us that both the King of Denmark and even earlier the vikings used this harbour because it was the safest in the Faroe Islands.

The Port is situated in the southern part of Eysturoy, the second largest of the Faroe Islands with an area of 268 km2 and a population of about 11.000.

For scenery lovers, don’t miss the idyllic village of Gjógv, named after the 650ft long gorge that runs northwards towards the sea, from the village.

Day 14 & 15: Cruising:

This brings your unforgettable Solar Eclipse cruise to an end, and you cruise back towards Southampton, UK whilst enjoying the facilities on board Boudicca.

Day 16: Southampton:

Your cruise ends today with your arrival in Southampton. Disembarkation begins after breakfast, when you will be transferred to the airport for your flight home to Dublin.

15 Nights accommodation aboard the 4 Star Boudicca, operated by Fred Olsen Cruise Line. (See ship info tab for more information on MS Boudicca)

Boudicca

Originally designed for world cruises, Boudicca has a high proportion of large cabins and suites, many with sea views. The vessel’s interior is stylish, elegant and very modern, and large windows in public rooms create a very light and airy ambience. In addition they provide magnificent views for passengers in the restaurants, lounges and bars of the ship.

The Secret Garden Restaurant, decorated in an oriental style, is available for informal dining, while the ship’s main formal restaurants are the Tintagel and Four Seasons, which display a wealth of original landscape and botanical paintings, as does the Heligan Room, named after the recreated Cornish “Lost Gardens” of Heligan. In fine weather a poolside buffet is available on the lounge deck, alongside the large swimming pools, two jacuzzis and exercise pool.
