Day to Day Itinerary:
Day 1: Barcelona, Spain: Depart 19.00
On arrival in Barcelona you will be transferred to the port to board MSC Splendida. The ship departs into the Mediterranean in the evening, setting sail for your first port of call, La Goulette, Tunisia.
Day 2: At Sea
Your only full day at sea, this gives you the opportunity to get to know this magnificent ship and all the wonderful facilities it has to offer.
Day 3: La Goulette, Tunisia: Arrive 08.00 Depart 17.00
African and Arabic hospitality await you in this exotic city, on the coast of North Africa
Tunis, the capital of Tunisia, actually consists of three cities: the modern Capital City of the Tunisian Republic, with its wide streets, skyscrapers and busy sidewalk cafes; the Arabic Medina (Old Town) from the Middle Ages, an exciting labyrinth laden with secrets, narrow alleyways, small shops, huge mosques and palaces and finally Carthage, the ancient Phoenician – Roman city, which lies 18 km from the city.
Day 4: Palermo, Sicily: Arrive 08.00 Depart 17.00
Palermo is the capital of the Italian island, Sicily, an island renowned as a vacation destination due to its great beauty and historical significance. Large, spacious and colourful, Palermo is set on the plain of Conca d’Oro (Golden Shell) between two magnificent headlands. The area has been dominated by many civilisations over the centuries, including the Romans, Carthaginians, Byzantines, Greeks, Arabs, Normans, Swabians and the Spanish.
Thanks to its eclectic past, Palermo offers an intriguing mix of cultures. Many ancient monuments still exist today, lending the city a unique appearance.
Day 5: Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy : Arrive 09.00 Depart 19.30
Get drunk on history, architecture and sunshine!
The port city of Civitavecchia lies about an hour from Italy’s capital and is where your cruise liner will dock before taking lucky holiday-makers to the city of Rome.
Rome – where do we start? It is the ultimate vacation destination. There is perhaps no other city so crammed full of history, with layer upon layer of fabulous ruins, imperial temples…not to mention Etruscan tombs, early Christian churches, medieval bell towers, Renaissance palaces and baroque basilicas.
Day 6: Genoa, Italy: Arrive 09.00 Depart 18.00
A beautiful port cradled between land and sea.
Cradled between land and sea and with a working port, the Italian vacation destination of Genoa on the west coast of Italy displays its past through her many palaces and the surrounding ancient terraced hills. Genoa has many different faces; at once a modern metropolis and a rigorous custodian of artistic heritage, as well as an industrious marketplace with centuries-old parks perfect for relaxation. Genoa hides her riches in an historical centre that looks traditionally seaward yet at the same time exhibits a new beauty achieved by restoring the splendour of ages past.
Day 7: Marseille, France: Arrive 08.00 Depart 18.00
A delightful blend of history, outstanding seafood, culture and heritage.
France’s second largest city and the capital of the Provence- Côte d’Azur region, the cosmopolitan city of Marseille lies on the southeast coast of France . As France’s most important port, Marseille boasts connections with Africa, Italy and Spain. The strong mistral wind blows away all traces of pollution and provides a clarity of air so pure that many famous artists have been attracted to the city: Cézanne; Braque; Derain; Dufy and Marquet. Although Marseille is the economic and industrial capital of France , it manages to remain true to its own traditions and culture, reflected in the Marseille way of life and its numerous museums, theatres and opera houses.
Day 8: Barcelona, Spain: Arrive 09.00
Your cruise ends today with your arrival in Barcelona. Disembarkation begins around 11.00am, when you will be met by your driver and transferred to the city centre for a day at leisure to enjoy the sights of this fine city. You will then be collected and transferred to the airport for your flight home to Dublin.
