The spire of the vast Gothic cathedral soars over a superbly restored medieval and Renaissance old town – Ruskin’s ‘labyrinth of delight’.

The city is rich in monuments and museums, with narrow pedestrianised streets lined by tall, half-timbered houses, and of course, the statue marking the spot where Joan of Arc was burnt at the stake.

Day 4: Rouen, France: Depart late PM

You will have the opportunity to take a full day trip to Paris (at extra cost), and explore all the famous sites; including the Eiffel Tower, Champs-Élysées, and the Arc de Triomphe, or enjoy a cruise along the River Seine.

Day 5: St Peter Port, Guernsey: Arrive early AM, depart early PM

This historic, picturesque and charming town located on the island of Guernsey is the Channel Island’s oldest settlement.

You have a full day to relax today as you cruise towards your next port of call, La Rochelle.

Day 7: La Pallice (for La Rochelle), France: Arrive early AM, depart late PM

Founded by Eleanor of Aquitaine in the 14th century, and once a bastion of French Protestantism, this handsome old Atlantic seaport has had a turbulent history.  Today it’s a lively, remarkably well-preserved city with a bustling fishing and yachting harbour, excellent shops and restaurants, and ancient streets lined by traditional 16th and 17th century vaulted arcades.

Day 8: Lorient, France: Arrive early AM, depart late PM

A former German U-Boat base, Lorient played a huge role in the Second World War and was a primary target for Allied bombing raids. Today, the rebuilt city is awash with post 1950’s architecture and a number of museums and galleries to discover and explore.

Your final day is spent at sea giving you a great opportunity to enjoy the fantastic facilities on board the Black Watch.
