Unearth the unique cultures, traditions and scenic treasures of Green Spain aboard Boudicca, taking advantage of the ship’s compact dimensions to delve deeper into this gorgeous region. Spending eight nights on board, you’ll sail to the heart of beautiful and historic cities; bringing many of Northern Spain’s highlights closer to you.

Calling first into La Coruna – where Boudicca will dock just 400 metres from the city centre – you’ll have time to see fine structures such as the Galician Baroque-style Cornide Palace and the ancient Church of Santiago in the old Ciudad Vieja district; visit the UNESCO-listed Torre de Hercules lighthouse; or even join a tour to Santiago de Compostela to marvel at the magnificent cathedral. Then in the charming Asturian city of Aviles, you’ll have the chance to visit the world-renowned Oscar Niemeyer International Cultural Centre, which will be just a short walk from the ship; and treat yourself to a glass or two of authentic sidra at one of many fantastic cider houses. Alternatively, you could take a trip to Oviedo to see the grand gothic-style cathedral and a number of UNESCO-listed sites; or tour to the Atlantico Botanical Garden, the only one of its type in Northern Spain.

During a full-day stay in Santander, explore the fascinating medieval history of the nearby towns of Santillana del Mar and Comillas; or simply head to one of many beaches situated close to the city for some rest and relaxation in the soothing Cantabrian sunshine. If you’re feeling adventurous, join a tour to take in the stunning scenery of the Picos de Europa Mountains; or visit the Cabarceno Nature Reserve to see exotic animals such as lions, jaguars and rhinos up close. Finally calling into Getxo, you can take a short trip to beautiful Bilbao to visit the famous Guggenheim Museum, and sample delicious pintxos and local rioja wine at one of the many superb restaurants for a true taste of Northern Spain.

Day to Day Itinerary:

Day 1: Liverpool, United Kingdom: Depart Late PM

Following a flight from Dublin to Liverpool, you will be transferred to the port to board the Fred. Olsen Boudicca where you will begin your journey.

Day 2: At Sea

Day 3: La Coruña, SpainEarly AM to Late Night

La Coruna is the capital of the province and a busy seaport situated in the Bay of Coruna.

The diverse architectural styles of La Coruna make this city an absolute delight for sightseeing. From the incredible medieval buildings and monuments to the stylish modernist houses that line the waterfront, La Coruna has something for everyone. The city also boasts an impressive seafront promenade, beautiful beaches and a host of attractions such as the Domus museum, the Casa del Hombre and Torre De Hercules – said to be the only Roman lighthouse in existence – which offers stunning views from the top of its 60-metre high tower.

Day 4: Aviles, Spain: Early AM to Late Night

A former maritime and farming town, the scenic city of Aviles is now one of Spain’s most important industrial centres, producing steel, iron and much more. The city centre is stylish and easy to navigate, with plenty of high street stores, pretty cafes and a number of museums and galleries to visit, while the nearby Old Town quarter is Aviles’ greatest attraction.

Largely pedestrianised, the Old Town of Aviles consists of several historic squares and plazas that are interlinked by a number of pretty streets and boulevards from centuries past. Home to some true architectural gems, the Old Town boasts a number of stunning historic buildings and monuments including the Camposagrado Palace, Palacio de Valdecarzana – Aviles’ sole example of civil medieval architecture – and the 13th and 14th century churches that are dotted around the city.

Day 5: Santander, Spain: Early AM to Late Night

The belle-époque elegance of El Sardinero aside, modern Santander is not the most beautiful of cities. A huge fire raged through the centre back in 1941, leaving little that’s old or quaint. But Cantabria’s capital is an engaging one, nonetheless, making the most of its setting along the northern side of the handsome Bahía de Santander. It’s a lively spot to spend a night or two, with fine urban beaches, busy shopping streets, a heaving bar and restaurant scene, plenty of surf, and some intriguing cultural attractions. It’s a popular summer holiday resort for Spaniards.

Day 6: Getxo (Bilbao), Spain: Early AM to Late Night

For many visitors Bilbao’s primary interest will be the world-famous Guggenheim Museum (whose stimulating art collection is rivalled by the building’s eye-catching design!) and Fine Arts Museum. Within easy reach is San Sebastian, Northern Spain’s cosmopolitan resort capital. This Spanish port sits beside the Nervion River, dividing Old Bilbao (Casco Viejo) and Santiago Cathedral from the newer city.

Days 7-8: At Sea:

Day 9: Liverpool, UK: Early AM

4* Fred Olsen – Boudicca

Originally designed for world cruises, Boudicca has a high proportion of large cabins and suites, many with sea views. The vessel’s interior is stylish, elegant and very modern, and large windows in public rooms create a very light and airy ambience. In addition they provide magnificent views for passengers in the restaurants, lounges and bars of the ship.

The Secret Garden Restaurant, decorated in an oriental style, is available for informal dining, while the ship’s main formal restaurants are the Tintagel and Four Seasons, which display a wealth of original landscape and botanical paintings, as does the Heligan Room, named after the recreated Cornish “Lost Gardens” of Heligan. In fine weather a poolside buffet is available on the lounge deck, alongside the large swimming pools, two jacuzzis and exercise pool.
