U6CN Durban to Venice

Day to Day Itinerary:

Day 1-2: Dublin to Durban, South Africa:

On arrival in Durban, after your overnight flight, you will be transferred to your hotel for a one night stay before you board the MSC Sinfonia in the morning.

Day 3: Durban, South Africa:

The pulsing warren of bazaars, alleyways and mosques that makes up the Indian area around Dr Yusuf Dadoo Street is ripe for exploration, and there are some excellent restaurants around Durban’s photogenic harbour area. Durban’s city centre grew around the arrival point of the first white settlers, and the remains of the historical heart are concentrated around Francis Farewell Square.
You will be transferred to the port to board the 4* MSC Sinfonia for your cruise to begin.

Day 4-6: At Sea:

Day 7: Pointe des Galets, Reunion:

Cruise ships rarely visit the port of La Possession, on the splendid Punta des Galets. This makes it one of the most unique stops of an MSC cruise to Southern Africa. As soon as you disembark, you can head off on an excursion to the so-called Circus of Salazie, the remains of an enormous volcanic caldera located a few kilometres from La Possession.

Day 8: Port Louis, Mauritius:

Port Louis has taken its role as the country’s first city seriously and has expanded over time with new streets, buildings and a beautiful promenade. After our cruise ship has docked, you will be able to take a stroll along the Caudan Waterfront, lined with some old cannons and numerous shops. Traces of Port Luis’s colonial past can be seen on Place D’Armes, where the statue of Bertrand François Mahé, the count of La Bourdonnais and a former governor of the island, observes passers-by surrounded by palm trees.

Day 9-10: At Sea:

Day 11-12: Port Victoria, Seychelles:

When you arrive to the Seychelles, you will dock in Victoria, the capital of this country composed of 115 islands dotting the Indian Ocean. As you will discover during your holiday, Victoria is located on Mahé, one of the archipelago’s largest, most important and busy islands.
Victoria is one of the smallest and youngest capital cities in the world; founded as late as 1770 by a group of Frenchmen, whose influence is still strongly felt on the island, in spite of the long occupation by the British, which ended with the islands independence in 1976. Victoria has been reconstructed several times but its original colonial style can still be seen in the lines of the Palace of Justice and of the Clock Tower of the Roundabout, a reduced-scale reproduction of the Big Ben constructed in 1903 in honour of Queen Victoria.

Day 13-19: At Sea:

Day 20: Aqaba, Jordan:

From something of a dowdy backwater, in the last decade or so Aqaba has transformed itself into a pleasant, if still under-resourced, leisure destination. Hotels at all grades are springing up in the town as well as at luxury waterfront developments up and down the coast; investment is coming in to improve the city’s infrastructure and facilities. Some of the best diving and snorkelling in the world is centred on the unspoiled coral reefs that hug the coast just south of the town – an engaging contrast with the nearby desert attractions of Petra and Wadi Rum.

Day 21-22: Suez Canal (transit), Egypt:

Day 23: At Sea:

Day 24: Katakolon, Greece:

Katakolon is a tiny seaside town in Greece in the bay of Agios Andreas, only 20 km away from the ancient site of Olympia. The historic associations and resonance of Olympia, which for over a millennium hosted the most important Panhellenic games, are rivalled only by Delphi or Mycenae. It is one of the largest ancient sites in Greece, spread beside the twin rivers of Alfiós and Kládhios, and overlooked by the Hill of Krónos.

Day 25: Kotor, Montenegro:

Though no longer Europe’s best-kept secret, Kotor’s sudden elevation to the tour-cruise league has failed to dim the timeless delights of its cobbled alleyways and secluded piazzas. Enclosing cafés and churches galore, the town walls are themselves glowered down upon by a series of hulking peaks.

Day 26: Split, Croatia

With its seafront cafés and ancient alleyways, shouting stallholders and travellers on the move, bustling, exuberant Split is one of Croatia’s and the Mediterranean’s most compelling cities, it’s easy to see this feeling when you step aground from your cruise.

Day 27: Venice, Italy

After your breakfast on board, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight back to Dublin.

1 Night in a 4* hotel in Durban.

24 Nights accommodation aboard the 4 Star MSC Sinfonia, operated by MSC Cruises. (See ship info tab for more information on MSC Splendida)

MSC Sinfonia – Making Sweet Music

As her name suggests MSC Sinfonia is a cruise ship inspired by the works of Europe’s great classical composers and, like the thrilling symphonies they produced, she is something of a masterpiece herself, capable of capturing and enhancing your every mood! If you’re looking for peace, quiet and relaxation, head for Le Terme on Debussy deck where sauna, massage, a gym and fitness centre will help sooth away the stresses of modern life. For a shot of Mediterranean or South African sunshine head for the solarium up on Schubert deck. Be careful not to overdo the tanning though; cruise ships create their own gentle breeze that makes it easy to think the sun isn’t half as strong as it really is – although the medical centre is excellent, it’s one facility we hope you never use!

A Cruise is a great way to find a new hobby – where better to take up Italian? – or, if you’re already into golf then, chances are, you’ll return a much better player thanks to a state-of-the-art Virtual Golf Simulator that’s perfect for beginners and seasoned professional alike. If this is all too serious for you, why not enjoy a spot of mini-golf or traditional deck games? Traditional cruising pleasures abound too from the fine cuisine available in the restaurants, the café and the outdoor buffet, to a plethora of bars – the Irish Pub, Shelagh’s House, will make British cruisers feel at home – and elegant lounges where you’ll find music, dancing and the lost art of conversation much in evidence.
