Day to Day Itinerary:
Day 1: Venice, Italy Depart 17:00
On arrival in Venice you will be transferred to the port to board the 4* MSC Poesia. The ship departs in the evening. An icon of beauty and art, it is a constant visual delight, with monuments and palaces, harmonious bridges, gondolas, traditional narrow streets and picturesque squares.
Day 2: Split, Croatia Arrive 08:00 Depart 18:00
With its seafront cafés and ancient alleyways, shouting stallholders and travellers on the move, bustling, exuberant Split is one of Croatia’s and the Mediterranean’s most compelling cities, it’s easy to see this feeling when you step aground.
It has a unique historical heritage too, having grown out of the palace built here by the Roman Emperor Diocletian in 295AD. The palace remains Split’s central ingredient, having been gradually transformed into a warren of houses, tenements, churches and chapels by the various peoples who came to live here after Diocletian’s successors had departed.
Day 3: At Sea
Day 4: Santorini, Greece Arrive 09:00 Depart 15:00
Gaunt, sheer cliffs loom hundreds of metres above the deep blue sea, nothing grows or grazes to soften the awesome view. The only colours are the reddish-brown, black and grey pumice layers on the cliff face of this, the largest island in the mini-archipelago.
Evidence of the Minoan colony that once thrived here has been uncovered among the resorts at the ancient site of Minoan Thira at Akrotíri, on the south-western tip of the island; the site was inhabited from the Late Neolithic period through to the seventeenth century BC. The Archaeological Museum of Firá, near the cable car to the north of town, is well presented, and has a collection from the excavations of Ancient Thira.
Leaving Santorini in the afternoon you will cruise the short distance to Mykonos to spend the remainder of the evening.
Day 4 – Continued: Mykonos, Greece Arrive 20:00 Depart 02:00
When sailing on cruise to the Mediterranean Sea, Mýkonos is the quintessential image of the Cyclades. In summer most people head out to the beaches during the day, so early morning or late afternoon are the best times to wander the maze of narrow streets.
The labyrinthine design was supposed to confuse the pirates who plagued Mýkonos in the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, and it has the same effect on today’s visitors. When you alight from your ship, getting lost in its convoluted streets and alleys is half the fun of the place.
Day 5: At Sea
Day 6: Dubrovnik, Croatia Arrive 13:00 Depart 19:00
From Dubrovnik you can easily reach Medjugorje, a small town in the municipality of Citluk. Medjugorje is one of the largest centers of worship in the world, a sacred place that attracts a multitude of pilgrims to visit the Queen of Peace.
Day 7: Ancona, Italy Arrive 10:00 Depart 18:00
Ancona hits you with a tangle of commercial buildings only two steps away from the Mediterranean Sea. Nonetheless, a city centre excursion reserves some historical appeal, and the authorities are making a concerted effort to improve the cruiser and tourist experience. A stiff climb from the port area passing Ancona’s well-signposted Roman remains along the way, will take you to the pink-and-white Duomo. Mostly built in a restrained Romanesque style, this is contrasted by an outburst of Gothic exuberance in the doorway’s cluster of slender columns, some plain, others twisted and carved.
Day 8: Venice, Italy Arrive 09:00
Following your disembarkation, you will be transferred to the airport to get your return flight to Dublin.
